Edward Lahey, 56, of Danville died at 11:21 last night at the Lakeview Hospital in Danville. He was born Oct. 30, 1921, the son of Edward Lahey, Sr. and May Murphy Lahey. Mr. Lahey was a former Watseka and Kankakee resident but had lived in Danville since 1973. While a Watseka resident, he was a Chevrolet auto retailer. Mr. Lahey married Ruth Wilson of Crookston, Minn. on Oct. 11, 1945. He attended U. of I. until enlisting in the Air Force during WW II. While serving as a pilot with the Eighth Air Force in England, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and numerous other decorations.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth, two daughters, Kathleen Lahey of Windsor, Ontario, Canada and Linda Jensen of Corvallis, Oregon, two sons, Thomas of Cassadaga, New York and Michael at home, his mother, Mrs. May Lahey of St. Louis, three sisters, Mrs. Genevieve Barnstead of St. Louis, Mrs. Theresa Waibel of St. Louis, and Mrs. Gracia Roney of Hinsdale, Il., two brothers, George of Columbia, Maryland, and Robert of Arlington Heights, Il. and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Lahey was a member of St. Edmund’s Catholic Church in Watseka. Services will be held, Mon., Jan. 2 at St. Edmund’s at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Edmund Davern officiating. Visitation will be Sun. from 2-5 p.m. at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home with the Rosary at 4 p.m. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
